The DDL-5550 is a made-in-Japan industrial straight stitch head that does one thing at 5,500 spm and needs a table, a motor and floor space to do it.

A home shop sewing garments, bags or quilts in volume who wants an industrial lockstitch with a long parts history and is willing to give up zigzag entirely.
Skip it if

- Model name: the DDL-5550 is sold today as the DDL-5550N; listings mix the two names. Sub-variants: 5550NA (light materials), 5550NH (heavy materials, size 21 needle, 13 mm knee lift), 5550N-7 (automatic thread trimmer). Catalog treats DDL-5550 and DDL-5550N as one entry and says so.
- Speed: 5,500 spm is the medium-weight figure; the Juki catalog lists 4,000 spm for light and heavy-weight setups. Catalog will use 5,500 with a note.
- Head weight: one dealer snippet states 75 lb (about 34 kg) but the snippet could not be tied to a single page; the Juki catalog field 'Total weight' was not captured. Left null pending a live catalog check.
- Price: $1,265.99 (Walmart, DIY servo bundle) vs $1,200 to $1,425 (Sewing Gold, options) vs a $706.15 total at one dealer that may be head only. Catalog will use $1,265.99 flagged dealer-variable.

They are the same machine under the current name. Juki now sells it as the DDL-5550N; variants add a letter for light (NA) or heavy (NH) material setups, and N-7 adds an automatic thread trimmer.
Is the DDL-5550 a walking foot machine?
No. It is a drop-feed single-needle lockstitch for light to medium-heavy materials. For leather, vinyl or heavy canvas Juki's walking foot model is the DNU-1541S.
